We already understand that in order to levitate and fly, we most likely have to let go of all attachments, but I think it goes deeper than that. It is not about just letting go of the obvious attachments in our life, like our car, house, partner, books, clothes, etc. Yes, of course, we definitely have to detach from these main attachments, but there is a more subtle level or layer of attachments beyond the obvious ones.
There are attachments, for example, to things like trees or plants in our garden. A few days ago I was in my garden looking at a couple of plants that had died due to an extremely hot and dry period here in Thailand. I care a lot for plants, and don’t like to see them suffer or die from lack of water, but I realized that I was being too sensitive or over-caring, and I realized that I had been attached to even the plants and trees in my garden. I found myself naturally just letting go these attachments when I became aware of them, because even though they are seemingly unimportant, they are attachments nonetheless, and we are supposed to let go of all earthly attachments in this life, if we want to fly.
There are also strong mental attachments to ideas, opinions, ideals, etc., and these are harder to identify and eliminate, and even though they are not physical attachments, we still need to sever ties with them in order to reduce the amount of attachments in our life. But these mental attachments should be discussed in another separate blog.
The point of this blog post is to raise awareness of attachments in our lives that we may not even have been aware of. Subtle attachments that only serve to weigh us down and keep us from floating up from the ground (levitating), and actually flying. This process of eliminating attachments in our life can take years. I am even thinking of writing a whole book dedicated to this topic of attachments in relation to human levitation and flight.
